Trinity Welcomes New Fellows and Associates to the College Community

Congratulations to our Newest Fellows and Associates of Trinity College

Outstanding academics within the University of Toronto community, Fellows and Associates play an active role in the life of the College. They enhance the student experience and enrich the College’s intellectual community through their many contributions, including: scholarly exchange through their participation at College events, programs and activities such as Low Table dinners; and engaging in conversations and student mentorship opportunities. We are grateful for their commitment to Trinity and look forward to their ongoing engagement in the life of the College and with our students.

Appointed as Fellows of the College (effective July 1, 2016):

• Prof. Sherry Lee is an Associate Professor, and currently Associate Dean, Research, in the Faculty of Music. Trained at the University of Western Ontario and subsequently the University of British Columbia, Professor Lee’s research is focussed on opera.
• Prof. Teresa Miedema is a lawyer and educator, who received her education at Trinity College and subsequently the University of Toronto Law School. Dr. Miedema is a highly regarded instructor in the Ethics, Society & Law program, whose interests focus on law and the regulation of ethnic diversity and international development.
• Prof. Nick Mount is an Associate Professor in the Department of English and has served as Associate Chair of the Department of English. Trained at the University of Victoria and Dalhousie University Professor Mount was recruited to the University of Toronto in 2001 and his research is focussed on Canadian Literature.
• Prof. Pekka Sinervo is currently Senior Vice-President, Research, Canadian Institute for Advanced Research and Professor in the Department of Physics. He has formerly held the positions of Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science and Chair of the Department of Physics, University of Toronto. His research focusses on high energy physics and the understanding of sub-atomic particles.

Appointed Associates of the College, each for a two-year term (effective July 1, 2016):

• Prof. James Allen is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy. Trained at Princeton University and Yale University, Professor Allen was a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh for many years before being recruited to the University of Toronto in 2014. Professor Allen is interested in the influence of Aristotle in philosophy.
• Prof. Leslie Boehm is an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. Trained at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Toronto, Les Boehm has an extensive track record in senior research administration and is interested in the history and future development of the Canadian health care system.
• Dr. Neil Guthrie is an educator, research lawyer, writer, speaker and Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Law. A graduate of Trinity College, Dr. Guthrie also trained at the University of Oxford and the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. In addition to his studies in the field of Law, Dr. Guthrie also engages in studies of the eighteenth century.
• Prof. Jennifer Jenkins is an Associate Professor of German and European History and holder of a Canada Research Chair. Trained at Stanford University and the University of Michigan, Professor Jenkins’ interests are in global history, modern German and European political and cultural history, modern Iranian history, transnationalism, imperialism, Orientalism, modern art and architecture.
• Prof. Margaret Kohn is a Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough and is currently Acting Director of the Center for Ethics, based in the Larkin Building at Trinity College. Trained at Williams College and Cornell University, Professor Kohn’s interests are in colonialism, democratic theory, urbanism, contemporary political thought, the history of political thought and legal theory.
• Prof. John Robinson has recently been recruited as a Professor in the Munk School of Global Affairs from his previous position of Associate Provost – Sustainability and Executive Director of the UBC Sustainability Initiative at the University of British Columbia. Trained in Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Toronto and York University, Professor Robinson interest is in sustainable development.
• Prof. Nick Stang is an Assistant Professor and Canada Research Chair holder in the Department of Philosophy. Trained at Harvard University and Princeton University before being recruited to the University of Toronto in 2014, Professor Stang’s interests are in the areas of Kant, metaphysics, early modernism and aesthetics.

In addition, the following Associates of the College appointments were renewed, each for a further two-year term (effective July 1, 2016):

• Prof. Yasmin Dawood is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law and holds a Canada Research Chair in Democracy, Constitutionalism, and Electoral Law. Trained at the University of Toronto, Columbia Law School, and the University of Chicago, Professor Dawood specializes in election law (Canada, U.S., and international), comparative constitutional law, and democratic theory.
• Prof. Vasilis Dimitriadis is a lecturer in the Department of History at the University of Toronto. His areas of interest are in international relations, 19th and 20th century European history and Soviet/Russian history.
• Prof. Martin Pickave is a Professor and Canada Research Chair holder in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto. Trained at the University of Freiburg and the University of Cologne, Professor Pickave’s interests are in Aristotle’s ethics, Thomas Aquinas, Henry of Ghent, William of Ockham, medieval metaphysics and philosophy, Descartes, John Locke and the history of the free will debate.
• Prof. Franco Pierno is an Associate Professor in the Department of Italian Studies at the University of Toronto. Trained at the Pontifical University of Sanctus Thomas (Angelicum), Rome, the University of Pavia and the University of Strasbourg Professor Pierno’s interests are in the history of Italian language, Italian and European linguistic policies, linguistic aspects of Jesuit 17th century relations and 16th century Italian protestant literature.
• Prof. Simon Stern is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law. Trained at the University of California, Berkeley and Yale Law School, Professor Stern teaches and researches in the areas of civil procedure, law and literature, legal history, and criminal law.
• Prof. Cheryl Suzack is an Associate Professor in the Department of English. Trained at the University of Guelph and the University of Alberta, Professor Suzack’s research focuses on Indigenous law and literature with a particular emphasis on writing by Indigenous women.
• Roman Borys, Jamie Parker and Annalee Patipatanakoon are members of the Gryphon Trio, artists-inresidence at Trinity College. In addition to their exceptional performance skills, the members of the Gryphon Trio have a strong commitment to engaging students in musical performance.

Appointment to Senior Research Associate of the College for a three-year term  (effective July 1, 2016):

• Dr. Penny Arthur is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of French. Previously a Research Associate of Trinity College her appointment as a Senior Research Associate will support her work as Editor of the Graffigny Correspondence Project, based in the Robarts Library.
