Superconductors are materials that, at low enough temperatures, carry electricity without dissipating energy. Useful for clean energy, they are also an embodiment of the quantum nature of electrons and atoms. This talk will survey early discoveries of superconductivity in simple materials to recent searches in complex materials. The quest is to find or create novel superconductors that, depending on application, do not need cryogenic cooling.
